Kia ora,

Welcome to Open Psychology, I am Sam Payne a registered psychologist providing therapy for adults in Albany, on the North Shore of Auckland, and in Parnell, near the city centre. I am also available for sessions online.

At times, all of us feel overwhelmed, a lack of direction, or question where our lives are heading.

Often, it’s helpful to talk to someone outside our circle. Therapy is a space to reflect on our journey so far, build insight into how we got here, develop skills and approaches to cope with life’s challenges, and plan our next steps to move positively into the future and grow.

I will work collaboratively with you to navigate the complex landscape of your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours, empowering you to lead a more fulfilling life.

Whether you’re facing personal struggles, seeking personal growth, or looking for a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings, I bring an experienced and compassionate approach on your path to well-being.

I invite you to explore my website, and when you’re ready, reach out to schedule your first appointment. I am here to listen, support, and guide you in crafting the future you want.

About Me

Kia ora, my name is Sam Payne. I am a registered psychologist. I grew up on the North Shore of Auckland and seem to have had trouble escaping it. After bouncing around a bit, I have always found my way back to the Shore and it has very much become my home.

My professional background is working in the forensic setting, group facilitation, brief intervention, community organisations, and EAP (employee assistance programmes).

What I do

I am passionate about mental health and supporting people to overcome challenges they face, becoming the best version of themselves. I work from a client-centered perspective, placing you and your experience at the centre of our work together. I draw on Rogerian, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approaches, as well as cultural models.

If you’re not a therapist, all of that means I take into consideration how you're feeling, thinking, and your surroundings to work collaboratively with you to find the best way for you to move forward authentically and grow from whatever situation you are facing.

The evidence-formed approaches I detailed above are important, we want to know that this will work after all! But with that said, in my experience, the most important element of therapy is that we will work as a team, dedicating time aside in each of our lives to focus on the challenges you’re facing and work together uncovering solutions and new ways forward.

Individual Therapy Sessions

I offer individual therapy, either in-person in Albany on the North Shore, or at Parnell near Auckland Central.

I also offer online sessions via video or by phone call.
